申請學校 SOP (Statement of Purpose)

Essay I

What are your specific short-term career goals immediately following the MBA program? Describe the job, industry and/or function that you plan to obtain. How will your current experience, combined with the Katz MBA degree, position you for this opportunity?

I am planning to be an Online Advertising Analyst after I graduate from Katz MBA program. To become a CEO with professional marketing skills in an animation company is my long term goal. To fulfill my goal, I need a MBA degree, and learn about marketing and information management, which is the best feature of Katz MBA. In addition, United States is the leading country in animation industry, furthermore I want to have a taste of American culture.  Especially since the diverse range of people that inhabit America would help me to gain a true cross-cultural experience. Thus, after I graduate from Pittsburgh, I would like to join a cultural marketing or entertainment film company such as The Walt Disney Company or DreamWorks Pictures as my short-term goal to sharpen my practical international marketing skills. Although I currently have some professional knowledge from college studies and work experience, I still lack some important abilities needed for my long term goal – projecting Taiwanese culture to international stage. I therefore intend to acquire marketing training in a global setting thus I am seeking your MBA program to enhance my expertise in Marketing and Strategies.

The Katz School of Business is right for me for the following reasons. Firstly, the outstanding faculty and plentiful resources along is appealing. The rigorous program offers solid practical skills with emphasis on information science, marketing, case competitions, community service projects, and teamwork. Specifically, I look forward to teachings from Professor Lawrence Feick, who specializes in international marketing, consumer information search, word-of-mouth influence, and the analysis of categorical data. I believe that Prof. Feick’s teachings will assist me in fortifying the shaky position of animation in Taiwan. Popular stories in Taiwan, often originate from other countries; hence Taiwanese people usually grow up with a greater sense of American or Japanese culture instead. This peculiar circumstance contributes to why Taiwanese are less ethnic consciousness and have less cultural identification. To break this situation, Taiwanese culture must be shared with the public so they can take pride in it. Accordingly, concepts in MBA class about decision making research, marketing and cooperation will foster my long-term goal. Secondly, the graduate program embraces international students and provides various choices of extracurricular activities that will equip me with interpersonal skills and diverse cultural experience. Last but not least, the MBA program combines global issues into study and provide students with internship opportunities that will equip me with international perspectives and real-world experience. In addition, Career and Leadership Development Center is well known for corporate networking and business recruiters, hence I believe that it can help me explore my first step outside of school.

My studies and local marketing experience from working in the animation industry are the cornerstones which make me come closer to my goal.

During my college life at National Cheng-Chi University (NCCU), I not only concentrated on my studies in international business, but also actively participated in the Association of International Business Department for practical experiences and later became Chief of the Public Relations Section. An example of a successful activity I held is a Beauty Lecture with Biotherm Cosmetics. This activity attracted more than 250 students although we only spent 1200 NT dollars ($36USD) on advertisement with original intention of 150 seats only.

After graduating from NCCU, I got an internship with my Professor’s recommendation at Power Quotient International Co., Ltd. (PQI), a memory module manufacturer, one of the top 10 global Removable Solid State Storage Devices providers. An example of my work achievement includes the report from my data analysis proved that PQI had great bargaining power with UPS since they accounted for 0.8% of UPS’s total amount of shipment but PQI didn’t utilize this advantage and shipped a lot of goods through other forwarders. After I accomplished my internship, I was well-prepared to take on responsibilities of full-time work.

I began to work as a marketing specialist and production assistant in 某公司, an animation company whose major business is to promote Taiwanese stories. 某公司 because is currently producing and marketing the first Japan-Taiwan cooperative animation, “某作品,” which is adapted from a famous Taiwanese historical tale. From the market research I conducted, our films were able to meet the current aesthetic standard of the public. Working with the Japanese team in an international-joint effort has been a precious experience for me and I learned the process of producing Japanese animation, which involves working under great pressure and fostering an excellent relationship with the art team. From this project, my management and communication abilities improved dramatically while working across culture with our Japanese partners as well as experts of different fields.

Afterwards, I intend to utilize my professional knowledge and work experience in cultural creativity industry to bring forward unique stories of Taiwan to the international stage. I believe that with MBA qualification from Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, I will hold key to achieve my ultimate goal.
